4 and In charge!

There's just no arguing with a 4 year old. Oh sure, you can try, but you will fail. Fail!

Let's examine one such case of 4 year old reason...A darling four year old with bright blue eyes and loose curly brown hair comes home Monday and tells her mother that her preschool teacher's birthday is Wednesday. According to 4 year old Miss Teacher said that every child must bring her a gift.

Mother laughs and replies "Oh, come on. She did not say that."

Terribly offended, 4 year old cries and asks why Mother is always laughing and never wants to be her friend.

Mother apologizes and asks how old Miss Teacher will be.

4 year old replies "10, so pretty old."

Mother asks what Miss Teacher wants for her birthday.

4 year old replies "candy. Probably 2 pieces, because Miss Teacher likes to share." Not having just fallen off the turnip truck, Mother sees where this is going.

Mother suggests that perhaps 4 year old got confused and it isn't really Miss Teacher's birthday. 4 year old is insistent. It is Miss Teacher's birthday, without a doubt, and Miss Teacher must have a gift.

Mother sighs. Mother decides to let this one go.

Mother and 4 year old hug, renew their previously shattered friendship and go about their lives. Until Tuesday night as mother is getting ready to walk out the door for a meeting and 4 year old asks when they will be going to Wal-Mart to buy Miss Teacher a birthday present.

Mother asks, delicately this time, if 4 year is positive it is Miss Teacher's birthday. 4 year old avers her complete and totally assurance.

Mother makes a special effort to buy Miss Teacher a small gift while out Tuesday evening.

Wednesday morning, Mother and 4 year old sign a special card to give to Miss Teacher. 4 year old's message reads: "LVOE YOU" and has cute little stick people and something that is probably a dog.

Mother's message reads: Happy Birthday! 4 year old came home Monday convinced today was your birthday and absolutely insistent on giving you a little birthday gift. If it is your birthday than have a great day. If it isn't, then Happy "there's no sense arguing with a 4 year old" day! Love, Mother.

Happy 4 year old (who suffers from terrible separation anxiety every school morning) happily bounces off to school with birthday gift in hand. No tears, just sheer excitement at giving Miss Teacher this special gift.

Mother picks 4 year old up after school and asks how Miss Teacher's birthday was. "Great!" replies 4 year old. "She loved her present she hugged me and told me she loves me. Oh, and she sent you a note."

Miss Teacher's note reads: "Thank you so much for the birthday gift - how sweet! Love having 4 year old in my class. She is a darling girl. Love Miss Teacher P.S. My birthday is in October. :)"

Mother says to 4 year old, "so it wasn't actually Miss Teachers birthday today, huh?"

"Nope," says happy 4 year old,"but she said to tell you she loved your card, it made her laugh."

A Very Merry Un-birthday to you Miss Teacher!

Note: Names have been changed to protect the sweet and innocent.
