Oregon Trip, Day 5: Rainy Day Wednesday
Our last day on the beach turned out to be rainy, so we had a pretty low key day. We spent the morning walking the beach doing a little tidepooling (though nothing as good as our first day out) and digging in the sand. As we walked along we noticed a little toy sticking up in the surf. I ran out to grab it and it was pretty buried. I used a little sand shovel and dug it up and it turned out to be a little fob attached to a Nintendo DS! The DS was completly ruined by the water and sand, but what a find. The girls couldn't believe someone would bring their DS to the beach. They were sad for the unfortunate soul who lost their DS and tormented about the fact that there wasn't even a lost and found to turn it in to.
So then I asked them which was sadder losing that someone lost their DS at the beach or that someone shot out the lenses of the lighthouse. Grace mulled that over for a minute and said "the lighthouse is way sadder. You can always save your money and buy a new DS." Whew, I must be doing something right.
On the way back to the car we found a cell phone battery in the surf, so we decided to call that stretch Best Buy Beach.
We spent the afternoon making lunch, napping, playing and sitting look out at the stormy water. WE went to dinner at Kyllo's, a nice seafood restaurant that's right on the water. It's actually built up on piers and the world's shortest river runs underneath it. It was cool to sit at a big table and look out at the stormy ocean. All along the beach hundreds of seagulls stood, all facing the same direction, with their heads all hunkered down to keep out of the rain. It was really weird looking. Strange how animals all do the same things...
We ended the day with an ice cream, a check in phone call to both grandmas, a run to the store to replenish our depleted gum supply and a warm bath in the jacuzzi tub.
Chad and I did wash and packed and watched the latest Project Runway episode before we crashed into bed for the night.
