Travel Blog - Day 8: Lazy Days and lighthouses

Wednesday started out as a lazy day. Most headed off to the Wright Brothers memorial and museum, but the Simpsons and us stayed home for a morning on the beach. (I actually slept in a little, which was nice.) I think the tide was on its way out because there were big waves and strong tides during our 3 hours out in the sun. We had to keep a hold of the kids while they played in the water, but it wasn't so strong that it was scary. Just being safe. When the kids got tired of the water they started digging holes in the sand. Big holes. Holes big enough to climb in. That gave way to being buried and most requested being buried up to their necks, though Brynn did eventually sit up and ask if she could keep her arms out. Smart girl.

Jen, Aaron, Chad and I sat on the beach playing the hypothetical game. You know totally pointless questions like if you had to buy a car today would you by a Ferrari, a corvette or a passat? Would you rather be lost at sea, stranded on a deserted island or lost in an Arctic wasteland? I usually hate playing that game (Chad loves it, so he is always asking me things), but it was fun to play with Jen and Aaron.

The most memorable thing about Wednesday morning were the crabs. They were everywhere, boldly darting all over the beach. We even saw two big ones fighting. It was the most active we saw the crabs on the whole trip.

In the afternoon we drove north further into Corrolla to see Currituck Beach lighthouse. I didn't climb up (too much heat that day, I think. I was feeling icky.), but Chad said girls loved the climb up and down and Brynn led the way. They were both pretty scared at the top and Chad snapped a couple of pictures of them putting on a brave posing face, but he said they were anxious to get out of there. They each got a sticker at the bottom from a light house keeper, who looked just like what I imagine a light house keep should look like - white beard and big fluffy white mustache and a little navy blue cap.

We spent the rest of the afternoon taking it easy, mostly resting a swimming.
